kINPen®IND

Effect

The kINPen®IND is a compact cold plasma device that uses atmospheric pressure. Plasmas are ionised gases. Plasma is considered the fourth physical state of matter after solid, liquid and gas. Physical plasmas are an indispensable tool for treating surfaces in manufacturing, research and development. Its reactivity is used intentionally to change surface characteristics and produce materials with specific features. Plasma can be used to deliberately modify surface characteristics. A polymer surface that was previously hydrophobic can be made hydrophilic, meaning that it can be wetted evenly with various liquids. Plasma is thus excellently suited for chemical-free treatment of surfaces.

Application

The handy kINPen®IND can be used to clean, decontaminate and activate surfaces under atmospheric pressure. When compared to other sources of plasma, the device not only produces the smallest stable plasma beam, but with a guaranteed temperature of under 40 °C, a truly cold one. It is therefore used in particular for treating surfaces of materials that are temperature-sensitive, such as plastic. Furthermore, geometrically difficult surfaces such as narrow cracks, capillaries and the smallest drill holes can be accessed easily. The standard version of the kIN®Pen IND uses argon. Reducing or oxidising agents can be added. Furthermore, by simply changing the electrode head, the device can be converted to use molecular gases such as air or nitrogen.
The kINPen®IND is used in various industrial sectors, such as:

  • Synthetics industry
  • Electronics and microelectronics
  • Optical industry
  • Printing industry
  • Packaging industry
  • Food industry
  • Automobile industry

Our kINPen®IND is also suitable for use in research laboratories, plastics research centers and technical colleges. The device is also used as a reference device in plasma research, which proves a large number of publications.

Production & Development

Customer-oriented solutions for surface treatment with atmospheric pressure plasma systems are at the focus of the neoplas GmbH’s work. The high-tech company from Greifswald is a spin-off of the Leibniz Institute for Plasma Science and Technology (INP Greifswald), Europe’s largest non-university research institute for low temperature plasmas.
The kINPen® has been a key field of research at INP Greifswald for several years and was developed by the neoplas GmbH in various series (kINPen®8, kINPen®9, kINPen®11) to create today’s product, the kINPen®IND.
